Hey All!
I'm new to the forum and this is my first post here.
The question I'm wondering about is how do people find new haunted sites? I'm a bit leary of what seem to be commericialized attempts to promote certain sites as being haunted and such, but imagine that there are probably more investigatable phenomenon outside of the well-known haunts.
So besides urban legends and rumors, where would one start to look for evidence of previously unknown hauntings in a certain locality?
The best option takes a lot of footwork, but it really is worth it:
Just talk to people - make connections (just make sure you do so safely.) Hand out business cards, you may get a hit on that day, or someday down the road. (One of our investigations came from a business card that we handed out 7 months prior) _________________ -Stephen

You can also create your own maps of paranormal activity at http://gwigo.com. I encourage users to use this free service to map the haunted locations and share them with the rest of the community.

I start with the library. There are normally some local book that begin by telling tales/claims of place with activity. I also look in newspapers from present and past Halloween times. This may sound cheesy but some places start with local scary stories put out during that time of the year. Then comes the internet...While it makes for a great tool people can post anything and anywhere with generally no one stopping them from publishing false claims. An always remember: Don't just assume because you read about it in a book that it's a public place. Make sure you have permission before going to check out a place with either just you or your your team. _________________ Do you think your house is haunted?

Ghost hunting is a potentially hazardous activity due to numerous environmental variables. Outdoor ghost hunts typically take place in dark areas such as cemeteries and old buildings which may contain unseen hazards that pose risk of bodily harm, damage to property or even death. We do not recommend anyone venture into an unfamiliar area without first surveying potential hazards during daylight hours.
